If it was up to you, would it be going to far to say you'd be hanging homosexuals just like Iran does? You've not gone so far yet, you just treat them like second class humans and demand them to keep their shit away from the public eye.

The thing is though that Canada (or any first world nation) would not be bribed by Russia, because outside of oil* Russia has nothing. Nobody (outside of a few Olympians) wants to immigrate to Russia, and the only reason Russia is ever in the news is because it's either: A) Grossly violating human rights or B) Trolling other nations.

Just another step in the direction of a nationalistic thought-police state everyone was already viewing Russia as since the Soviet days. I'm sure the good people think this is done in the name of good manners and culture and not see the obvious manipulations and where that path had consistently led throughout human history.

Yes, US foreign policy is a crappy pile of double standards. Like being in bed with Saudi Arabia. This is nothing new or unknown in the world. To say that everyone willfully ignores the crap USA pulls, is bullshit. USA isn't really popular around the world, you know.

You don't go to jail if you use the N-word in the US, people just become aware that you're a racist. If you can't see the difference between common ethics and a state-enforced behavioral laws, then we have a problem here.
Policemen are public servants, and they will do their jobs as decided upon by the powers that be. Soldiers don't get to choose which enemy to shoot at based on their religion, doctors don't choose which 'races' they will operate on. You may hold whatever bigoted personal opinion you like, but if you're a public servant, you have a job and you will do that job.
That's what you and most Russians don't seem to grasp. A government body is there to serve its citizens - not rule over them - and to serve ALL of it's citizens. When you define some citizens are living the 'right' life and others as the 'wrong' life, you're picking fThavorites and defining class-B citizens, and that is morally wrong unless they are causing harm to others.
Gays, Jews, Blacks may offend some people by simply existing, but it doesn't mean they don't have a right to exist and live life the way they see fit. And if their crime is that they live their life in a way that you don't agree with, and on top of that you're taking away their right to protest - then fall into the definition of an oppressive regime. It doesn't matter of you're the Saudi Arabia, Iran, US during the days of slavery, Nazi Germany, China, or someone flirting with these ideas like current Russia. These principles stay the same.
