"According to the analysis of the infrared images, there is nothing to suggest that there was a cluster of thunderstorms of exceptional intensity," Mr Ratier said. "Certainly there was powerful cumulo-nimbus [storm clouds], but these are found frequently in this area and in normal climactic conditions," he added. --------------------------------------------------------That said, I hope they are able to find helpful evidence as to what happened....fingers crossed for the blackbox. Such a tragedy...given the A330 has had an almost impeccable safety record and the fact that this aircraft was very new too.

I did some googling and I'm getting some conflicting sources as to whether the A330 has a mechanical linkage to backup the primary FBW system...
Can someone help?
