I'll take the SDB system over the ASMM any day. ;)

What makes the SDB so special except that it's "small diameter" and fits the ridiculously small bomb bay of the F35?

In another hand the AASM is a very interesting concept.
It's a kit for slick bombs - like the Paveway kit - but it has a unique feasure.
A propellant that makes the bomb gain altitude after droping.
That's very smart. A plane flying very low level to avoid enemy defenses won't expose itself just at the moment it's the most vulnerable: when it's the closest to the target and drop its bombs.

With AASM you can hit a target 15km away while flying at 300 feets, or 50 km away when flying higher.

For the rest it can glides and it's GPS guided or IR guided for the final, like JDAM.

WWR weapons don't really make problems I think because they are easy to integrate. But actually, the fact that AMRAAM isn't integrated yet is a bad point.
Not because it's better than Mica but because many country have stockpile of those in their ordonance; and it's a very capable weapon much less expansive than the Mica with a easier ownership (the Mica is fragile and can't fly a lot)

Dassault says that they will integrat it if necessary though.

For how much? How long it'd takes? Will the US give the specs that easy? That the questions.

Think by yourself. If you don't, someone else is gona do it for you
