More money = better living standard. I thought the civil was was only in the northern part of the country? In any case, I hope they get that thing sorted out, the Sri Lankans that I met in Bangladesh and here are one of the nicest people on Earth.

More money does not necessarily mean a better standard of living. Firstly, it has to be spread evenly and it has to be translated into positive social indicators (better health, education etc...). Take equatorial guinea for example. It has a GNP per capita on par with Switzerland's (more than 30,000 USD per person)....but the average citizen is very poor and illiterate....because only members of the govt and their friends have all the money. This is an extreme case.

The non-correllation between GNP per capita and overall development lead to the UN creating the index called the HDI which also incorporates education and health statistics. The fact that the income component of the HDI uses the logarithm of GNP per capita (rather than a simple percentage of the country with the highest GNP/pc) is because of the fact that higher income is no guarantee of higher living standards in the country.

When you use the HDI, Thailand is ranked alongside Saudi Arabia....when in a sole GDP per capita methodology (even when using a PPP comparison) Saudi Arabia is well ahead. Basically it means the people in Thailand have achieved a lot more with much less in terms of living standards (better distribution of wealth and favourable social indices that concern literacy, school enrolment and life expectancy).

The Tamil Tigers routinely target people in the capital Colombo and have participated in terrorist attacks throughout the country in the past. The period of current calm can be attributed to the ceasefire in place for the last couple of years.....but this ceasefire is looking more and more fragile by the day.

As for Sri Lankans being nice....sure some of my best friends are from there....but I have best friends from all around the world. Many Sri Lankans (especially Sinhalese) would have beef with me since I am ethnically Tamil even though I am Indian Tamil (just because Tamils are all animals or whatnot---a similar reverse sentiment is felt by the Ceylonese Tamils that are still in SL or that have emigrated overseas).

I have noticed with these organizations, such as, women's group, Amnesty International, and others that they have become too political, they don't criticize the top dawg's for their violation but jump on the poor and weak. That's why I made that comment earlier.

What are you talking about. Amnesty international ROUTINELY criticize countries like the US, Israel and India (which many muslims have in their head as the great demons of the present that are seeking to eradicate the muslim world----the conspiracy by the obviously "jewish controlled" media is just a stepping stone to the massive conflict just around the corner).

Yes many organisations do become political, but this does not change the fact that countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh....and in fact most of India's neighbours are failing miserably in controlling extremism, terrorism and poverty.

When India or some indian source says the same thing or a similar thing, people from these countries (who have all invariably migrated to US/UK/Canada/Aus/NZ etc..) say "India is facing bigger problems blah blah blah....and India is the big SATAN blah blah blah...India oppresses its minorities blah blah"....

but when an international agency comes up saying the same sort of things....it is all part of the jewish or jewish-hindu controlled media. Seems many of your folk love to live in self denial and ignorance :lol .

No, its what I do each summer....I work for an aid agency either at home or abroad trying to make things better for the downtrodden and the destitute. What do you do to help your fellow Bangladeshis back home?

You are beaten! It is useless to resist!
