Then they are being very nearsighted. I'd think the islamic movement is the second biggest threat to the Uk, next to it's own media. . You can't kill off the media though however appealing that sounds. Joe
Long term I would agree with you, more or less. It's rather a situation where one or the other can survive - in the very long term. The UK cannot really survive having substantial numbers of Islamists within it, while the level of political and religious freedom espoused by the US and UK is the kiss of death to mass political Islamism.
Personally I regard it as both a threat and an opportunity. There are certainly substantial numbers of non-political muslims in the UK - of the four I know personally, three are in the TA (one is even in UKSF) and the fourth is gay. This doesn't fit in with the usual scary statistics about Islam taking over the UK and forcing us all to be good little Dhimmis. It also seems highly suspect that I apparently know 1% of the Muslims in the British army, just from one small training wing with about 50 soldiers on the books. Either there is a massive level of self-selection in that those who join are much brighter than average and go forward for officer training more, or the numbers are massively understated - which again suggests that the population is much more integrated than the stats suggest.
All that is necessary for the triumph of New Labour is for good men to say nothing whilst CGS.
